GLOBAL CANOE

Melissa was hired by Alianza Mesoamericana de Pueblos y Bosques (AMPB) as the project coordinator to plan and execute GLOBAL CANOE, a political boat action with indigenous peoples leaders from Indonesia, South, Central, and North America.  Held on the East River (New York City) during the Paris Agreement signing at the United Nations, the purpose of the action was to gain attention of the United Nations and demand that nation states include indigenous peoples as full partners in decision making that affects climate change. Melissa:

  • Worked within a budget

  • Hired and managed a social media team to handle all social media and livestreaming the day of the action (team from Melissa's organization, Advice Project Media)

  • Wrote the script for the film, organized content, and ensured the quality of production (VIDEO BELOW)

  • Made the website for the event and wrote all content.

In addition, Melissa offered AMPB and other partners involved in the action edited photographs that were outside the scope of her contract.
